Doug Zimmerman Portfolio
Douglas Zimmerman, is an accredited photographer with ISI Photos covering the FIFA World Cup fans in Qatar.
Since photographing his first World Cup 20 years ago in Korea and Japan, he has been fascinated more by the passion of football fanatics than the action on the field. Sure there is no World Cup without the game on the pitch, but the fans' intensity and devotion make the World Cup so unique and special.
Being a soccer fan at the World Cup is one of the most significant global events that facilitate cross-cultural communication and understanding. Their mutual love for ‘the beautiful game’ can break down the racial, cultural, and nationalistic barriers that arbitrarily separate us.
This year’s tournament will be one of the most unique for fans. The unusual time of year, the restrictions in place for fan revelry, the cost of traveling to Qatar, and the limited and unusual accommodations that fans will live in provide numerous story opportunities to cover.
